The South Coast in a Day

Iceland's South Coast is the country's greatest-hits reel — thundering waterfalls, a village perched at the edge of the Atlantic, black sand beaches framed by basalt sea stacks, and a glacier that reaches almost down to the road. In one unhurried day, our small-group minibus carries you through all of it, with a knowledgeable local driver-guide narrating the landscape as it unfolds.

The Experience

01

Leaving the City Behind

We collect you from your Reykjavík accommodation in the morning and head east, past Selfoss and Hvolsvöllur, as farmland gradually gives way to the black volcanic plains that define this stretch of coastline.

02

Skógafoss & the Village of Vík

Our first stop is Skógafoss, one of Iceland's most powerful waterfalls, close enough to feel its spray on a still day. From there we continue to Vík í Mýrdal, the country's southernmost village, before stepping onto the black sands of Reynisfjara beneath its basalt sea stacks.

03

Sólheimajökull, Iceland's Living Ice

From the coast we turn inland to Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier where the ice meets black volcanic ash in a landscape unlike anywhere else on the route — a chance to take in the scale of it up close.

04

Seljalandsfoss & the Hidden Gljúfrabúi

On the way back toward Reykjavík, we stop at Seljalandsfoss — one of the few waterfalls in Iceland you can walk behind — and its lesser-known neighbour Gljúfrabúi, tucked inside a narrow canyon and easy to miss if you don't know where to look.
