Terms of Service
Last updated 23 August 2026.
1. Who we are
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of northstartravel.is (the "Site") and any tour, transfer, or activity booking made through it. The Site is operated by:
NorthStar Travel ehf.
Reykjavík, Iceland
Company registration no. (kennitala): 580324-0530
VAT no.: 152377
Contact: contact@northstartravel.is
By browsing the Site or making a booking, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the Site or make a booking.
2. What we do
NorthStar Travel curates and sells tours, transfers, and activities in Iceland — some operated directly by us, and others operated by third-party partners and made available through our booking partner, Bókun (Bókun ehf., a booking platform for tour operators). Where a tour is operated by a partner rather than by NorthStar Travel directly, this is indicated on the tour listing, and the partner's own operating terms may also apply to your experience on the day.
3. Bookings and payment
Every booking button and widget on the Site opens a secure booking window hosted by Bókun. When you book, you are taken to Bókun's own checkout to select your date, confirm final pricing, and pay — NorthStar Travel does not collect or store your payment card details directly.
Your booking is confirmed once you receive a confirmation from Bókun (typically by email). Please check this confirmation carefully and contact us promptly if anything looks wrong.
4. Pricing and currency
Prices shown on the Site may be displayed in Icelandic Króna (ISK), US Dollars (USD), Euros (EUR), British Pounds (GBP), or other currencies for your convenience. These displayed figures are indicative. The currency and exact amount actually charged are confirmed at checkout on Bókun's platform, and may be subject to exchange-rate movement between browsing and payment. ISK is the base currency and legal tender for tours operated by NorthStar Travel in Iceland.
5. Cancellations, changes, and refunds
Cancellation windows, refund eligibility, and how to request a change are set out in full in our Cancellation & Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: private tours may be cancelled free of charge up to 72 hours before departure, and standard (shared/group) tours up to 24 hours before departure. Weather-dependent tours (for example whale watching or Northern Lights tours) may be cancelled or rescheduled by the operator for safety reasons — see that page for how this is handled.
6. Traveler responsibilities
- You're responsible for arriving on time, at the correct meeting point, with any required documentation.
- Some activities (for example ziplining, lava tunnel tours, or horse riding) have minimum age, health, or fitness requirements — these are noted on the individual tour page. It's your responsibility to check you and anyone you're booking for meet them.
- Travel insurance is strongly recommended, particularly for weather-dependent and physically active tours.
- You're responsible for following operator and guide safety instructions during any tour or activity.
7. Weather, safety, and force majeure
Iceland's weather can change quickly. Tours may be delayed, altered, rescheduled, or cancelled by NorthStar Travel or an operating partner where conditions make it unsafe to proceed, or due to other events beyond reasonable control (including but not limited to volcanic activity, extreme weather, road closures, or government restrictions). Where a tour is cancelled by the operator for these reasons, see our Cancellation & Refund Policy for what happens next.
8. Liability
To the extent permitted by Icelandic law, NorthStar Travel's liability for any claim relating to a booking is limited to the amount paid for that booking. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as missed connecting travel), or for the acts or omissions of independent third-party operators, except where such liability cannot be excluded under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under Icelandic or EU consumer protection law.
9. Intellectual property
All text, photography, video, and design on the Site belong to NorthStar Travel or are used under licence (see photo/video credits where shown). You may not reproduce, redistribute, or use Site content commercially without our written permission.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Iceland. Any dispute arising from these Terms or a booking will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Icelandic courts, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time — for example to reflect a new booking partner, a new type of tour, or a change in the law. The version in effect at the time of your booking applies to that booking. Material changes will be reflected by an updated date at the top of this page.
12. Contact
Questions about these Terms or a booking: contact@northstartravel.is
This page is a working draft prepared for NorthStar Travel and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. It should be checked against Icelandic consumer-protection and package-travel regulations before relying on it, particularly if any bundled tour + transfer packages could count as a "package" under the EU Package Travel Directive.
